Finance Officer - Debtors and General Ledger [New Zealand]

Buller District Council is seeking a Finance Officer- Debtor and General Ledger to join our Finance Department, based at our Westport office. This position offers a variety of interesting duties, and the ideal candidate will have experience with office accounting exceptional people skills and an interest in financial improvements for the overall strategic direction of Council. What we’re looking for:

You will be familiar with debtors processing and general ledger systems. You will thrive in a team environment and demonstrate confidentiality awareness at all times. Your high attention to detail and communication skills will come naturally and you will enjoy reconciling ledgers and solving queries, while continually learning about the services offered to our District and making suggestions for financial system enhancements.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Financial system experience including maintaining debtors and asset registers.
  • A good understanding of internal control processes e.g. separation of duties, delegation levels.
  • Accounting system experience including managing the integration between the general ledger and subsidiary ledgers and month/year end processes.
  • Debt management experience and a good understanding of collection processes and options is preferred but not essential.

What you’ll be responsible for:

You will administer the day-to-day general ledger system maintenance and processes including monthly reconciliations and end of financial year routines. You will be a whiz at data integrity checks, and enjoy the fulfilment of business improvements. Day to day invoicing functions will be second-nature along with monthly reconciliations, transfers between ledgers and bank processing.
