We have an exciting opportunity for an Intern to join our EMEA Engineering Operations team for a duration of 12 months starting in July 2023. The role is based in our regional Head Office in Watford.

This placement is ideally suited to an undergraduate from an environmental, economics or energy-related discipline. The successful candidate will possess exceptional skills in data analysis and an interest in energy, economics and business performance. What will I be doing?As Energy Intern, you will support the Energy Management team with the management, implementation and control of the company's energy supply and demand programmes.
You will contribute to utility consumption and cost management strategies led by the team to reduce environmental impact, drive cost savings, and deliver value for owners.

Key activities cover (but are not limited to):

  • Utilise the award-winning environment, social and governance management platform - LightStay, utility consumption data, invoices and other available data sources to analyse trends, and identify areas of opportunities for resource conservation and innovative efficiency solutions across the EMEA portfolio.
  • Develop and verify the use of data analytics for consumption benchmarking, cost forecasting and financial reporting for the existing and onboarding portfolio.
  • Manage stakeholder queries in the space of performance, contracting and cost forecasting.
  • Produce and develop regular business reports and statistics as required by area management and stakeholders.
  • Review energy market intelligence and invoice detail to inform decisions in the utility procurement process, and contribute to the implementation of innovative approaches to energy contracting.
  • Maintain and update accurate records of all energy procurement, trading and contracting activity ensuring compliance with internal policy and procedures.
  • Provide analysis of pilot projects and prepare ROI reports for various state-of-the-art energy and water technologies.
  • Assist and ensure compliance with company standards and the requirements of EU energy and environmental legislation.
  • Support the Regional Engineering Specialists and the Energy and Environment team with local energy initiatives and relevant compliance issues.
  • Provide cover for the Sustainability and Environment intern as required.

What are we looking for?

  • Must be in your second year of undergraduate study at the point of application
  • Must be available to start in July 2023, for the full 12 months
  • Must be eligible to work in the UK. If you are a non-UK national, without EU Settled or Pre-Settled Status then you will need to be studying at a UK university in order to be eligible to undertake a placement here
  • Must be studying towards an environmental, economics, energy or engineering related discipline.
  • Candidate must be computer literate with excellent IT skills - Excel is especially important and PowerBi knowledge would be beneficial.
  • Passionate about sustainability, data and providing solutions for businesses.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to provide a simple explanation of energy matters to non-technical colleagues, whilst being able to discuss complex issues with industry experts.
  • Ability to analyse large data sets, take initiative, identify priorities, and make recommendations.
  • Strong problem-solver, resilient and positive.
  • An ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Demonstrates the highest standards of ethical behaviour and absolute discretion with sensitive information.
  • Good time management with excellent organisational and planning skills - it is important that the individual can prioritise their work and be flexible to change their activities to reflect the key business need at that moment in time.
  • Knowledge of energy markets and economic, political drivers is desirable, but not essential.
